first_img Warren Feeney Warren Feeney has been appointed manager of League Two strugglers Newport County.The 34-year-old steps into the role following John Sheridan’s decision to return to Oldham Athletic.Feeney had been working as Sheridan’s assistant since October after a spell as boss of Lingfield.“It’s a great honour for me to be appointed as manager of Newport County AFC,” said Feeney, who will be assisted by former Blackburn defender Andy Todd.“I have enjoyed my time at the club and I am looking forward to the challenges of being a Football League manager.“I believe we have a committed group of players here, that are more than capable of staying clear of the relegation places this season.“We have showed that we have the quality in this squad to match the best teams in this division and now the focus must be on hitting a consistent level of performance.“We have some crucial games coming up, so all of the efforts will be focused on preparation for those games and picking up the points we need to help us move further away from the bottom two.”“I would like to thank John Sheridan for his help during our time together. He is a great manager and gave me the opportunity to join him at Oldham and whilst I have learnt a lot from working with him the opportunity to manage at Newport County AFC was a simple decision for me.” 1last_img
