Man drowns in North Fork of the Lewis River

first_imgA 24-year-old swimmer drowned Friday in the North Fork of the Lewis River, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.The drowning occurred at the mouth of Cedar Creek, which is off Northeast Etna Road at the northern edge of Clark County. It was reported to 911 around 3:15 p.m.According to a sheriff’s news release, the victim was with a group of four family and friends when he and one other person decided to go swimming. Once in the icy water, he began to struggle and slipped below the surface. The second swimmer returned safely to shore.The man’s body was recovered in about 15 feet of water and was recovered with the help of Clark County Fire & Rescue and a dive team.The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was reportedly from Klamath Falls, Ore.The air temperature was in the mid-60s at the time of the drowning, but the water was much colder, and was likely a factor in the death, deputies said.last_img
