Howard Wins Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas’ senior guard Jordan Howard is the Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by led his team to a 1-1 week against No. 18 UCLA and Alcorn State for a Bears’ offense that averaged 101.5 points per game for the week. This is the Howard’s fourth Player of the Week award for his career and first of the season. The senior from Chandler, Ariz., made eight shots from downtown, including a trey that sent the game to overtime and a four-point play to open overtime. The three-pointers made were one shy of a program record and tied for the most UCLA has allowed at Pauley Pavilion. He followed that performance with a 27-point outing in the Bears’ win over Alcorn State on Sunday, 102-76. For the week, Howard averaged 31 points per game and was 12-of-24 from behind the arc, also averaging 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the week. The Bears (2-2) set a school record for three-pointers made with 18 against UCLA. They also tied the record for most-three point field goals made by a team and set the record for most three-point field goal attempts (35) at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
