PREEMO PRIMER: DJ Premier & The Badder Band Will Bring Hip Hop Heritage To Brooklyn Comes Alive

first_imgLegendary hip hop producer DJ Premier has crafted a timeless catalog that stretches across the genre. A trendsetter with an easily discernible sound, his patented brand of hard-knock drums and syncopated stab-n-scratches have been steadily coming correct for the better part of three decades. Known best as one-half of Gang Starr the seminal duo with the late emcee Guru, Premier’s body of work as a producer for a veritable who’s-who of hip-hop royalty cemented his reign as one of the creators of the New York hip hop sound. He might have been born in Texas, but no other producer is more synonymous with New York’s celebrated reign atop the golden era of hip hop than that of DJ Premier.Starting in 2015, the man they call “Preemo” embarked on a new kind of project in the live music realm, forming a five-piece ensemble called The BADDER Band. This brood of instrumental bullies helps the venerable DJ re-create his iconic discography as a live concert experience. Each set they play is an award tour through thirty years of boom-bap bliss. The BADDER Band is made up of bassist Brady Watt, Lenny “The Ox” Reece on drums, horns/keyboardist  Takua Kuroda, trombonist Mark Williams, and the bandleader, DJ Premier himself, on live production. After first touring Japan, and later releasing their first official record and video, “BPATTER,” Premier took the group on a 16-city trek across North America, dubbed the BADDER Band Tour. Now Preem is bringing the group home to Crooklyn for a late-night get-down at this weekend’s Brooklyn Come Alive.  Watch the video for DJ Premier & The BADDER Band’s “BPATTER” below (via DJ Premier‘s YouTube page):“My addiction is turntables, drum machines, guitars, amps, and a lot of speakers,” Premier stated in a press release last Spring. “I have fun doing a whole bunch of different styles with my band, because they fall into place so well, with everything that we’ve brought into the picture, no matter what it is.”Brooklyn Comes Alive Announces ‘After Midnight’ Tickets For DJ Premier, Crystal Method, BrowniePreem’s live band’s shows have made an impact on some of the most well-respected modern day hip hop/funk/soul tastemakers. After DJ Premier & The BADDER Band brought their beats to Denver, Lettuce/Break Science drummer/producer Adam Deitch proactively reached out to comment on the show, beyond impressed with the group and their fresh presentation of Preemo’s untouchable catalogue.“DJ Premier is the epitome of Real Hip Hop,” Deitch raves, “From his work with Gang Starr to KRS One to NAS and Biggie, he is the architect of the NY hip hop sound. Hearing his band play his original tracks so well, anchored by drummer Lenny ‘the Ox’ Reece, their set at Brooklyn Comes Alive is a can’t miss situation for any true beat-heads and golden-era aficionados.”Hovering above the clouds and strolling down memory lane, ever the veteran OG, Premier knows that the mass appeal remains hard to earn. When his BADDER crew takes the stage to represent, with militia-like discipline and a New York state of mind, they kick in the door, and mos’ definitely take it personal. New York, ya out there? My advice to you is to step in the arena when Crooklyn Comes Alive, because although DJ Premier is royalty and still boasts the skills, he will not be puttin’ in work forever. In anticipation of Brooklyn Comes Alive, here is Live For Live Music‘s Brooklyn Comes Alive “PREEMO PRIMER”–a brief selection of just some of DJ Premier’s finest cutting-edge work over the years, from the likes of Gang Starr, Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Jeru the Damaja, D’angelo, and Christina Aguilera. We also included a Best-Of mixtape (above) so you can bump the beats blended together and get stoked for the BADDER Band. If this list appears like a hip-hop Hall of Fame, that’s because it is. Arsene Wenger backs Sadio Mane to win Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk

first_imgAdvertisement Sadio Mane is in the running to win the Ballon d’Or (Picture: Getty)Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Sadio Mane deserves to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and team-mate Virgil van Dijk.Messi is bidding to win the prize for the sixth time this autumn and his greatest challenger was expected to be van Dijk, who helped transform Liverpool into Champions League winners following his £75m arrival from Southampton 18 months earlier. However, Wenger believes that Mane should be in the frame. The Senegal international finished as the Premier League’s joint-top scorer last term alongside team-mate Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – a feat that is all the more impressive when you consider Mane does not take penalties.AdvertisementAdvertisementAnd Wenger believes Mane is deserving of the award as he was the ‘outstanding’ player in Liverpool’s Champions League-winning side.ADVERTISEMENTArsene Wenger names his 2019 #BallonDor winner! Thanks to @arsenesgame for their question. #AskArsene #beINWenger pic.twitter.com/bb5GlTlGlS— beIN SPORTS (@beINSPORTS) October 18, 2019Asked who should win the award, Wenger told BeIN Sports: ‘Mane was the outstanding character.‘I would say – because he is a fighter… and efficient. Marriage can reduce crime by increasing self-control

first_imgHealthCanal.com 26 Sep 2011Marriage can potentially help reduce crime by enabling people to develop greater self-control, according to a new study examining changes in marital status, self-control and marijuana use between late adolescence and early adulthood. The study by Dr Walter Forrest, Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Monash University and Associate Professor Carter Hay, from Florida State University found that young marijuana users who went on to marry were less likely to have continued using the drug than those who remained single. The research also uncovered a key reason for the change was that those who married also experienced significant improvements in self-control. “Self-control is one of the strongest predictors of differences between people in terms of their involvement in crime,” said Dr Forrest. …This latest study indicates that the link is due in part to the effects of marriage on self-control. “Our study shows that improvements in a person’s level of self-control are related to changes in their involvement in crime over time. It also shows that marriage is a significant source of those improvements,” said Dr Forrest.http://www.healthcanal.com/mental-health-behavior/21147-The-benefits-marriage.htmllast_img read more

Iloilo City gov’t puts unruly drivers, pedestrians on notice

first_imgAfter the Diversion Road, next to bemade a “traffic discipline zone” is McArthur Drive from Barangay Tabuc Suba,Jaro district to Barangay Balantang. But in October 2017 Mabilog wasdismissed from the service by the Office of the Ombudsman for unexplainedwealth. Then vice mayor Espinosa who assumed Mabilog’s post put the project onhold. ILOILO City – There is no dearth ofnational laws and local ordinances regulating traffic. The pandemonium on thecity’s streets, the congestion and accidents here are mostly caused byundisciplined drivers and pedestrians not following traffic rules and regulations, according to the city government. Conlu said these included the speedlimit ordinance, the ordinance against modified mufflers, points where to loadand unload passengers, the law on the use of helmets and other body protectivegears by motorcycle riders and the maximum number of back riders allowed, thelaw on the use of seatbelts, the law on the non-use of cellphones while drivingand clearing of windshields from gadgets that directly distract the driver’sline of sight, among others. As proposed by Mabilog, the firstphase of the ITS would be on the Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue because thishighway is prone to vehicular accidents due to overspeeding drivers. City hall is thus implementing this montha new scheme aimed at disciplining drivers and pedestrians, although narrow inscope for the time being. Mabilog thought of having an ITS forthe city to address traffic congestion, stop illegal parking and curb recklessdriving that mostly result to vehicular accidents. What are the traffic rules andregulations to be fully imposed? He said an ITS would discouragedrivers from disregarding traffic rules and regulations, and it would also helplaw enforcers to easily identify and catch violators. Phase II would be on the coastal road,Phase III on the McArthur Highway Drive going to the municipality of Leganes,Iloilo and Phase IV on the Circumferential Road going to Oton, Iloilo./PN In January 2017 Mabilog formed atechnical working group and the city government allotted P25 million for thesystem. “Angwala gatabok sa pedestrianlane…tudloan man naton kondiin dapat insakto magsakay,” he said. Like the Diversion Road, McArthurDrive is also “problemado pirmi satraffic because of lack of discipline,” he explained. An ITS involves the use ofclosed-circuit television cameras capable of determining the speed of vehicles(if they are overspeeding) and of recording them. It would also entail theestablishment of a command/monitoring center.center_img The mayor previously said he would pushthrough with the intelligent traffic system (ITS) that former mayor Jed PatrickMabilog proposed in 2017. Treñas also said gianttelecommunications company Philippine Long Distance Telephone offered toestablish a traffic command center with closed circuit television cameras onthe Diversion Road for the monitoring of vehicles. Going ahead with the ITS without acomprehensive study on the city’s traffic situation would not be an intelligentmove, explained Espinosa. “I want this scheme initially tried onthe Diversion Road para mapakita ngapwede maobra ini,” said Treñas. “Gustoni Mayor (Jerry) Treñas ma-start na kita this January,” said Conlu. The Philippine National Police (PNP),Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be helpingthe PSTMO enforce this new scheme. Conlu said law enforcers wound bearmed with, among others, breath analyzers to catch those driving while underthe influence of alcohol and speed guns to catch drivers who are exceeding thespeed limit. All traffic rules and regulations(national and local) will be strictly enforced on the avenue round the clock. DISCIPLINE ZONE. The 14-kilometer Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue (Diversion Road) in Mandurriao district is the pilot area for the Iloilo City government’s Traffic Discipline Zone, a scheme that aims to restore order on the city’s streets by enforcing national and local traffic rules and regulations without fear or favor. IAN PAUL CORDERO/PN It was unclear, though, if Espinosaordered a comprehensive study right after suspending his predecessor’s project. In the first few days or weeks, however, the PSTMO and its partners would focus more on informationdissemination on the Traffic Discipline Zone scheme. There will be noapprehensions but traffic laws and regulations would be strictly enforced, stressed Conlu. The 14-kilometer Sen. Benigno AquinoJr. Avenue (Diversion Road) in Mandurriao district will be made a “TrafficDiscipline Zone”, according to the city government’s Public Safety andTransportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu.last_img read more

MCC Turns over 3 Bikes to CBEs

first_imgAuthorities of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) yesterday turned over three brand new TVS five star motorbikes it has purchased at the cost of US$10,000 to three Community Based Enterprises (CBEs) in Monrovia and its environs. The motorbikes were turned over to the Swaray and Dunbar in St, Paul Bridge, the Alpha Sanitation in the slum community of West point and the United Group located in Sinkor Old Road. “Authorities of those three sanitation groups that the bikes have been assigned to are expected to use their bikes to collect plastics from the streets and in their respective neighborhoods, and school campuses. They are not, however, intended for garbage collection,” Abraham B.Y. Jusu Garneo, MCC’s Director-General of Service programs told the beneficiaries as he presented the bikes to each of them. The tough looking Chinese made auto 200cc bikes are neatly inscribed with ‘Operation Attack Plastic’. MCC bought the bikes to complement the plastics collection exercise that was launched last year, under the code name, “Operation Attack Plastics.” President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf launched “Operation Attack Plastics” which brought together 13 schools from the Monrovia Consolidated School System that participated in picking up used and unwanted plastic materials in the streets and communities within the municipality of Monrovia. The involvement of the students, MCC said, was intended to bring about competition among the participating schools, following which trophies in first, second and third categories were presented to the winners. The MCC provided hygienic and sanitary materials including gloves, boots, and helmets to be used by the students to protect them while carrying out the plastic collection. In remarks following the presentation, Caine Prince Andrews, MCC’s Director-General for Internal Operations, underscored the importance of “Operation Attack Plastics,” noting that the bikes are part of the sustainability of the project. Madam Mai Dunbar, Swaray and Dunbar Sanitation General Manager, on behalf of her colleagues, expressed appreciation to the MCC, and promised to maintain the bikes and use them for the purpose the MCC has intended.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Letterkenny St.Patrick’s Day Parade – get involved today

first_imgThere is lots of planning going on behind the scenes for this years Letterkenny St.Patrick’s Day Parade and Letterkenny Chamber is making an appeal for groups, clubs, schools and businesses to get involved. We have dancers, gymnasts, sports clubs and community organisations already making their plans for the annual Parade that is taking place on Sunday 17th March but we need many more to keep the parade as one of the biggest in the County. For businesses it is an opportunity to get in front of 10,000 spectators, for community groups it is a way of getting your cause and group recognised. And for everyone it is a great afternoon out and remember there is always the chance of winning the €500 for the best entry. Chamber President Leonard Watson said “The parade is organised by Letterkenny Chamber and its volunteers are busy raising money from businesses large and small. With the support of businesses we will be able to cover all the costs of the Parade but we are making an appeal for more entries from groups and businesses.“St. Patrick’s Day is always an important event in the calendar and it marks the start of the Spring season for all of us in business. This year it falls once again at a weekend so we are expecting a high number of spectators. This year we are celebrating “Letterkenny Together” and we know everyone will get into the spirit of celebrating all things Irish and show how proud they are of Letterkenny and Donegal.”“This year, in a change from the norm, we are asking walking entries and walking entries attached to motorised floats to assemble at An Grianan Theatre Car Park. The motorised entries will line up as usual along Pearse Road and the walking entries will be filtered in to the parade from the Theatre. So spectators will get the best vantage points from the Main Street.”The Parade starts at 3pm on Sunday 17th March making its way from Station Roundabout (Tesco) via Port Road, through the Main Street past the viewing platform at Market Square to finish in Old Town. Corona SDK Approved for Nook Color App Development

first_imgWhat it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Tags:#Android#apps#mobile#news Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Related Posts Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfacescenter_img sarah perez Yesterday, a major upgrade for Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color delivered a wider selection of Android applications to the popular e-reader tablet. And today, B&N’s Nook Developer program officially added Ansca Mobile’s Corona SDK to its short list of approved frameworks for Nook app development. The only other frameworks supported for the Nook Color are the official Android SDK from Google, PhoneGap, Mono for Android, UNITY: Android and Adobe AIR for Android. Why Did B&N Pick Corona? There’s a Story There…Corona’s appeal to mobile app developers is that it allows for the reuse of code across platforms (iPad, iPad, Android, etc.). According to Barnes & Noble, the decision to support the Corona SDK was due to its demonstrated ease of use and speed with which it allows developers to create high-performance apps, and, we might add, especially mobile games. However, there is more of a backstory to the selection process than was indicated by the press release. Ansca Mobile’s PR Manager Hetal Bhatt told us that there wasn’t any sort of “open call” or formal submission process for SDK makers to get theirs approved for use with the Nook Color. But B&N’s Chief Developer Evangelist Ted Patrick used to work at Adobe with Ansca Mobile’s two co-founders. The two co-founders, Walter Luh and Carlos M. Icaza, were the lead engineers on Flash mobile at Adobe, and left in 2007 to create Corona SDK after Adobe refused to overhaul Flash per their recommendations for the then-looming iPhone platform.Afterwards, they created Corona SDK specifically for app development on mobile devices to fill the void left by Flash (too resource-hoggy, they said) and “official” languages like Objective-C for iOS (which they said was too complicated).Since B&N’s Patrick knows the co-founders personally, he had been looking at the Corona SDK for some time and had even blogged about it in the recent past. When B&N was ready to open up to third-party mobile games and apps, Patrick test drove the SDK and tweeted his love for it. And that’s how the deal went down.3 Apps Available at LaunchIf that story is a little more “inside baseball” than you care for, then the only major takeaway from today’s news is this: the Corona SDK makes it easy to launch your apps on Nook. So easy, a 14-year-old can do it! In addition to its cross-platform capabilities, the SDK uses the Lua programming language to make the development process quicker, too.At launch, there are three apps built using the Corona SDK on the Nook Color: Float, The Secret of Grisly Manor and Bloki.Developers can learn more about the Corona SDK here: http://www.anscamobile.com/corona/nook/ The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technologylast_img read more

How You Became the Sales Manager You Are

first_imgAs a sales manager, you are a composite of the sales managers you worked for.If your sales manager lived behind his desk, never going into the field with his people, you learned to live behind the lines with nice clean boots. If your manager was in the field dealing with customers, you will lead from the front. You’ll have muddy boots from being close to the action. If your sales manager was a super-closer, swooping in to save deals at the last minute in an heroic effort to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, you’ll do the same. The opposite could also be true. Your sales manager may have been the kind to sit quietly, providing feedback after the call, there only to help you grow. If you were lucky enough to have that manager, your people will be equally lucky.Forecasts are important. Some sales managers (and company leaders) act as if the only thing that matters is the forecast. These forecasters stare at dashboards and sift through data, as if the data itself could create the outcomes they need. If you were relentlessly asked for a forecast, you’ll do the same. But you may have had a sales manager that only asked for a forecast when it was necessary, you’ll invest your time doing the work that makes the forecast worth looking at.Many sales managers never coach the people in their charge. Instead, they dole out orders, always directing people in what they need then to do, and how they need them to do it. If you simply took orders, you will give orders. A coaching manager is different. They focus on helping their people grow and turn in their best ever performance. If you had a coach as a model, you’ll be a coach.Like any profession, the reason there are so many bad sales managers is because so many of them had bad models themselves. The reason there are so many great sales managers is because they had great managers of their own.If you had a bad sales manager as a model, you know what not to do. You can give people a better experience than the experience to which you were subjected. If you had a great sales manager, you need to honor that by being that model for your team.last_img read more
